The Panzerkamfwagen V Panther was the German answer to create a medium tank that could outperform the Soviet T34/76 on the battlefield.
The Panther had a crew of 5 men, was armed with a 75 mm L 70 cannon, had a sloping frontal armor that could reach up to 100 mm thick, reached an average speed of 55 km/h. The production of the Panther suffered several delays due to the complexity in the manufacture of some of its parts, these delays generated impatience, due to the need to have a competitive medium tank in the shortest possible time, and the final rush resulted in the first variants having many reliability failures.
The first battle in which the Panther participated was in the Battle for the Kursk Salient, where many of them were damaged before being put out of action by enemy fire. In the last years of the conflict, the Panther was improved, resulting in its final versions, one of the best tanks developed during World War II.
