Description
The Macedonian cavalry was an essential part of the Macedonian army that under the command of the great Alexander the Great conquered much of the world in the 4th century BC.
The cavalry was divided into:
- Heavy cavalry (hetairoi) formed by the Macedonian nobles.
- Light cavalry (podromoi) whose main mission was to scout and harass the enemy when they retreated.
- Thessalian cavalry, formed by Thessalian soldiers who were armed with short spears and whose structure was similar to that of the heavy cavalry.
