During the early years of World War II, Nazi Germany used military tactics based on surprise, mobility and speed, this new way of fighting went down in history as “Blitzkrieg” (or “Blitzkrieg”). During this early stage of the conflict, recovering abandoned, damaged or damaged tanks from the battlefield was relatively simple, due to the speed of operations, the combat zone was often secured. However, as the conflict progressed and the logistical lines became wider and wider, the difficulty increased.
The 18-ton FAMO half-track was designed for the dual purpose of transporting troops (up to 18 soldiers) and recovering battlefield tanks (several could be used at the same time to transport heavy battle tanks such as the Tiger I). the Sdkfz. 9 FAMO 18 tn was powered by a 12-cylinder Maybach HL engine developing 270 hp, which allowed it to reach a top speed of 50 km/h.
The Tamiya kit includes 8 figures.
