Description

The Roman Legion was the basic unit of the Roman army, which for 6 centuries dominated the ancient world with its military might. The legionaries, in times of the republic, were Roman citizens, with sufficient means to pay for their equipment, consisting of a bronze helmet, a spear, called “Pilum” and a sword called “Gladius”.

The legion was formed by:

• Hastati: they were the front line soldiers, they were armed with spears (pilum) of different weights.
• Princes: they were more veteran soldiers, their protection was better than that of the Hastati.
• Triari: The most veteran soldiers were the last reserve to enter combat, only doing so when the situation was desperate.
