Description

From the 2nd century B.C. onwards, the Roman legions ceased to be organized by age and combat functions, and the light infantry (velites) was eliminated due to its lack of combat efficiency. All these changes resulted in the Roman legions being organized from a single heavy infantry unit, organized in cohorts.
