The Gauls were a people of Celtic origin, who inhabited large regions of Central Europe (France, Switzerland, Belgium and to a lesser extent the Netherlands and present-day Germany).
The Gauls confronted the Romans in the 1st century BC and proved to be truly fearsome warriors. Julius Caesar achieved the defeat of Gaul in 51 BC.
