The highly effective blitzkrieg tactics implemented by Germany in the early years of World War II, both in Europe and in Africa and the Eastern Front, demanded fast and agile vehicles. The German blitzkrieg gained notoriety at the beginning of the war and continued to prove its effectiveness in the deserts of North Africa. Leading these fast and highly mobile attacks were the Aufklärungsabteilungen (reconnaissance battalions) of the Wehrmacht. These advanced ahead of the main Panzer divisions, identifying safe routes and marking enemy positions for elimination.
The Sd.Kfz 222 Leichter Panzerspähwagen (light armored reconnaissance vehicle) was a four-wheel drive armored car manufactured by Horch, equipped with a 2 cm light automatic cannon and a coaxial MG34 machine gun. The Sd.Kfz 223 command variant eliminated the automatic gun and added radio equipment with a distinctive antenna frame. Deployed on all war fronts where German forces participated, it was also used by the Romanian, Bulgarian and Chinese Nationalist armies.
The box includes a plastic model that can be assembled as a Sd.Kfz 222 or Sd.Kfz 223, Bolt Action order dice, Bolt Action stat card, vehicle damage markers, assembly booklet and a color decal sheet covering German, Romanian, Bulgarian and Nationalist Chinese vehicles.
