The semi-tracked armored vehicle Sd.Kfz.251 stood out as the main armored transport of the Wehrmacht. Designed by Hanomag in 1938, mass production began the following summer. These armored personnel carriers served the German Army during World War II, deploying on all fronts with a total of 15,252 vehicles of various series and modifications. The first variant, the Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf.A, was manufactured between 1939 and 1940. One of the versions was the Sd.Kfz.251/8, intended for evacuating the wounded from the battlefield, with the capacity to transport different quantities, such as two people on a stretcher or four seated. Equipped with special stretcher supports and semicircular rails to protect it from the rain, the vehicle also had a drinking water tank and an additional step at the rear to facilitate access to the transport compartment. These armored medical transporters were usually part of the Stabskompanie and were distinguished by large signs with a red medical cross on their bodies.
