The creation of the Bedford QL series of military trucks began in the late 1930s in response to the British Army’s request for a more modern and versatile transport vehicle. Testing was completed in 1940 and, in the early months of 1941, Bedford QL trucks were deployed to operational units. Throughout the war, these vehicles were used on various fronts, highlighting their fundamental role in covering logistical and transportation needs. Its four-wheel drive and relatively light weight significantly enhanced its carrying capacity.
The flexibility and robustness of the Bedford QLs also allowed them to tow and transport artillery pieces, such as the 6 Pdr anti-tank gun or the 40 mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun. Equipped with a 6-cylinder gasoline engine and 72 horsepower, they were also distinguished by their ease of maintenance and repair, crucial aspects in combat scenarios.
