The S.L.C. (Siluro a Lenta Corsa) Maiale was a manned torpedo used by the Italians during World War II.
The design of this device was based on previous successful experiences of the Regia Marina during World War I, which led to the development of a modified, speed-limited, manned torpedo. Maiale’s greatest success came in the attack on the well-defended port of Alexandria (1941) when the British cruisers “Valiant” and “Queen Elizabeth” were seriously damaged.
