Gruppe Fehrmann was an improvised German unit formed in 1945 during the last months of World War II.
The unit, under the command of Hermann Fehrmann, consisted of tanks that had been decommissioned for repair or modernization.
Due to shortage of resources and time, these vehicles were quickly reconditioned and sent to the front.
Gruppe Fehrmann operated mainly on the western front, engaging Allied forces during the invasion of Germany.
The unit’s tanks were a mix of Panzer IV, Tiger I and Panther models, some of them equipped with reused or even incomplete components.
Despite being poorly equipped and manned by poorly trained personnel, they fought in several defensive battles.
Gruppe Fehrmann is remembered as an example of Germany’s desperate attempts to resist the Allied advance in the last days of the war, using whatever resources were available.
