The Tiger I, also known as the Panzerkampfwagen VI, was one of the most fearsome and emblematic tanks used by Nazi Germany during World War II. It was designed in response to the need for a heavy tank capable of taking on Allied and Soviet enemy tanks, was equipped with the formidable 88 mm gun and its exceptionally thick armor was virtually invulnerable to enemy tanks of its time. Their appearance on the eastern and western front generated fear and respect among the Allies.
The Tiger I proved to be a formidable war machine and played an important role in many crucial battles, including the Battle of Kursk and the Battle of Normandy. About 1,350 Tiger I units were produced.
