Description

It was not until 1942, in North Africa, that the Allies first saw the imposing silhouette of the Tiger I on the horizon.

The German General Staff understood, after the invasion of the Soviet Union, that they needed a bigger tank, better defended and with more firepower and asked Henschel and Porsche to manufacture prototypes for the construction of this heavy tank, finally, in April 1942, after the tests to which both prototypes were subjected, it was decided that the Henschel model would be the one to be produced in series.

With 100 mm frontal and 80 mm side armor, it was armed with the excellent 88 mm KwK36 L/56 cannon and was powered by a 650 hp Maybach HL 210 P45 engine.

Tiger I Ausf E produced between November 1942 and July 1943 are known as “initial production”. 200 Tiger I were part of this initial production.
