Each infantry division of the Werhmarcht (German Armed Forces) consisted of 3 regiments, which in turn consisted of 4 companies each. The fourth company was the machine gun team of that regiment, which was equipped with twelve heavy machine guns and several mortars that completed its extraordinary firepower.
The best known and most iconic machine guns of World War II and possibly of military history are the MG 34 (produced by Mauser in 1934) and its big sister, the MG42 (1942), an improved evolution of the former. Both machine guns are represented in this 1/35 Tamiya kit. Both had a caliber of 7.92 mm but the MG42 had an effective range and rate of fire (1200 rounds per minute) significantly higher than its big sister.
