The Studebaker US6 heavy-duty truck was developed by the Studebaker Corporation in 1941. This vehicle was noted for its rugged design and excellent cargo capacity. Equipped with a 6-cylinder Hercules JXD engine that generated 94 horsepower, the Studebaker US6 offered high off-road capabilities. Approximately 200,000 units were produced in thirteen different variations. The Studebaker US6-U5 version was a versatile tanker, equipped with a 750-gallon (2840-liter) fuel tank manufactured by Heil. The tank consisted of two 375-gallon tanks mounted in tandem, with side racks for storing 5-gallon drums. Conversion of these vehicles into tankers was done at Heil’s Milwaukee, Wisconsin factory. About 1150 of these converted vehicles were produced. While they were supplied primarily to U.S. allies, there is speculation that some units may have been used by the U.S. Army.
