The Merkava Mk.3D is a main battle tank in active service in the Israeli army, both in regular brigades and reserve units. It is armed with a 120 mm smoothbore gun and an advanced BAZ fire control system. Its 1200 hp front engine, together with a new transmission and independent suspension, offer great mobility. It has participated in conflicts such as the Second Lebanon War (2006), Operation Cast Lead (2009) and Operation Protective Edge (2014). To deal with low-intensity threats, it has been fitted with improved armor, optics protection and tow hooks.
