The Matilda II was a British infantry tank that was in service during World War II.
Its development was clearly in line with the armored doctrine that the British followed from the development of tanks after the First World War. According to this doctrine, tanks were to be support weapons for the infantry in their advances, this was far from the German Blitzkrieg (based on speed, mobility and surprise). The Matilda IIs were slow, heavy, heavily armored tanks with relatively ineffective guns for combat with other tanks. Their behavior in combat was always conditioned by these limitations
