The Valentine Mk I was the first version of the British Valentine infantry tank, introduced in 1940. Designed to support infantry on the battlefield, the Valentine Mk I was equipped with a 2-pounder (40 mm) gun and armor up to 60 mm thick, giving it good protection against enemy artillery. However, the tank had a crew of three, which limited its operational capability, as the commander also had to perform gunner duties. The Valentine Mk I was used on multiple fronts during World War II, especially excelling in the North African campaign, where its durability and maneuverability were essential in the desert terrain. Although its gun became inadequate over time, its mechanical reliability kept it in service throughout the war. More than 8,000 units were produced in several variants, and many of them were supplied to the Soviet Union under the Lend-Lease program.
