The British Mk II ‘Male’ tank was one of the first armored vehicles used in combat during the First World War.
Developed from the Mk I, this model was characterized by its robust structure and its ability to cross trenches and uneven terrain, something fundamental in the trench warfare that dominated the conflict.
The Mk II ‘Male’ was armed with two 6-pounder Hotchkiss guns and several machine guns, allowing it to both support infantry and destroy enemy fortifications.
Although its armor was relatively light, making it vulnerable to heavy artillery, its innovative design served as the basis for future advances in tank technology.
These tanks saw action mainly during the Battle of Arras in 1917.
While they failed to completely change the dynamics of warfare, their impact was significant in demonstrating the potential for the use of armored vehicles in combat, paving the way for the development of more advanced tanks.
