The Japanese submarines I-16 and I-58 were two classes of submarines used by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II.

Description

The I-16 class was a series of 20 submarines, built between 1938 and 1941. They were designed as long-range vessels and had a range of 24,000 nautical miles. The I-16 submarines were armed with six torpedo tubes and had a crew of 94.

The I-58 class, also known as the “Sentaka” class, was a series of six submarines built between 1944 and 1945. They were designed as fast attack submarines and were capable of diving to depths of up to 100 meters. The I-58 submarines were armed with eight torpedo tubes and had a crew of 100.

Both classes of submarines were widely used by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II and participated in several notable engagements. The I-16 class was responsible for the sinking of the British aircraft carrier HMS Hermes in 1942, while the I-58 class was responsible for the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in 1945.
