The K-141 “Kursk” was a nuclear-powered submarine of the Oscar II class belonging to the Russian Navy. Designed for long-range attacks, it was equipped with P-700 Granit missiles and torpedoes, making it a powerful naval weapon.
On August 12, 2000, the Kursk suffered a catastrophic explosion during maneuvers in the Barents Sea, sinking with 118 crew members on board. The tragedy generated great controversy and exposed failures in the rescue response.
Today, the Kursk is remembered as one of the greatest submarine tragedies in modern naval history.
