The Sturmgeschütz III (or Stug III) was a German self-propelled assault gun of the Second World War, it was based on the chassis of the Panzer III to which the turret was replaced by a fixed superstructure that significantly lowered the profile of the vehicle and made it more difficult to destroy by the enemy.
German assault guns were intended for Wehrmacht infantry units and initially worked (as in this Trumpeter Ausf B short-barreled version) for the bombardment of enemy defensive positions, with the progress of the conflict these guns would undergo a metamorphosis to eventually become very effective anti-tank weapons.
