The 2nd French Armored Division (2e Division Blindée) was a key military unit during World War II.
Led by General Philippe Leclerc, it was part of the Free French Army, composed of soldiers who opposed the Nazi occupation and the Vichy regime.
Formed in 1943 in North Africa, the division was equipped and trained by the United States, using mainly American tanks and vehicles.
The 2nd Armored Division distinguished itself in several important Allied operations, its most significant moment being the liberation of Paris in August 1944.
Under Leclerc’s command, the division’s troops entered the French capital and helped liberate the city from German occupation.
Subsequently, they participated in the Battle of Alsace and the invasion of Germany, playing a key role in the liberation of Europe from Nazi control until the final surrender of Germany in 1945.
