Between 1756 and 1763 the Seven Years’ War took place, involving all the European military powers of the time. Many historians consider it the first world war, since it spread over several continents, affecting the colonies of European states. In particular, the French and Indian War took place in the North American theater, where French royal troops, backed by various allied Indian forces, confronted the British Army and troops from the Thirteen British Colonies in America. Both armies moved quickly with the objective of capturing and destroying enemy fortifications and settlements along the borders.
The intensity of the war was due to the challenging operating environment and the ferocity of the fighting. It ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in February 1763, which granted Britain control of the French colonies in North America.
