The Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf. D with Wurfrahmen 40 rocket launcher was a variant of the German half-track used extensively by the Wehrmacht during World War II. The Sd.Kfz. 251/1 was an armored personnel carrier, but this particular version was equipped with the Wurfrahmen 40 rocket launcher system, which consisted of six frames positioned on the sides of the vehicle, capable of firing 280 mm or 320 mm rockets. The nickname “Stuka zu Fuß” (Stuka on foot) reflects the psychological impact of its use, as the rockets created a devastating explosion and a deafening sound similar to that of the famous Stuka dive attack aircraft. It was employed both in infantry support roles and in attacks against enemy positions, fortifications and troop concentrations. This combination of mobility and firepower provided German forces with an effective weapon for offensive and defensive operations, although its accuracy was limited due to inaccurate rocket trajectory.
