At the end of the 1930s, the Italian Army began to produce self-propelled artillery howitzers to provide supporting fire to mechanized and infantry units. Within this policy, the “Semovente” began to be developed, which used the chassis of the Italian M series tanks, replacing the turret with a super structure with a 75 mm gun.
The 75/34 was the last version of Semovente, with a more effective gun for anti-tank fighting, this version was not available until the spring of 1943, shortly before the armistice with Italy, so these vehicles became part of the anti-tank units of the Werhmacht.
