The Harrier is a jet fighter designed to form part of the British Royal Air Force (RAF). This fighter surprised the world as early as the 1960s with its first prototype, being able to make a vertical take-off similar to that of a helicopter, thanks to its steerable nozzles that give it vertical thrust.
The Harrier was not considered for embarkation until 1975, and the new fighter, modified for embarkation, was named Sea Harrier. The Sea Harrier FRS1 had parts of its landing gear replaced, its nose section modified to raise the pilot’s seat for speed, the Ferranti Blue Fox radar added and its armament changed to Sea Eagle anti-ship missiles and AIM-9Lsidewinder air-to-air missiles.
The British Navy, RAF, US Marines and Spanish Navy are some of the prominent users of the Sea Harrier.
