After Germany’s defeat in World War I, severe restrictions were imposed on the size of its army and also on the type of weapons it could develop, but this did not prevent it from secretly starting to develop several prototypes of a heavy vehicle for reconnaissance and tactical support to the infantry in the mid-1920s. The project was halted during the crisis of the Great Depression but resumed once the Nazis consolidated their power in Germany.
The eight-wheeled Sd Kfz 231 and 232, entered service in 1935, mounted a Horch 8-cylinder gasoline engine that allowed it to reach maximum road speeds of 85 km. It had a crew of 4 members, its frontal armor was 15 mm, its main weapon was a 20 mm KwK 30 cannon and its secondary weapon was a 7.92 mm MG 34 machine gun.
About 600 units of this vehicle were produced until September 1943.
This Tamiya kit includes photoetched parts, metal cannon and two figures.
