The Sd.Kfz. 234/2 Puma was a German armored reconnaissance vehicle used during World War II. Part of the vehicle series Sd.Kfz. 234, the Puma stood out for its advanced design and mobility in various terrains. It was designed and produced by the Büssing-NAG company between 1943 and 1944, with a total of 101 units manufactured.
The Puma was characterized by its eight-wheel design, which gave it excellent maneuverability and speed, reaching up to 90 km/h on the highway. It was armed with a 50 mm KwK 39/1 cannon, mounted in a rotating turret, and a 7.92 mm MG34 coaxial machine gun. Its armor, although not very thick, was sloped to increase protection against enemy projectiles.
This vehicle was mainly employed in Panzer divisions and reconnaissance units, playing a crucial role in scouting and battlefield reconnaissance missions. Its ability to move quickly and provide fire support made it invaluable in blitzkrieg operations.
The Sd.Kfz. 234/2 Puma stood out on the eastern and western fronts, proving to be an effective and versatile reconnaissance vehicle. Despite its limited production, it left a significant mark on German war strategy, influencing the design of future armored reconnaissance vehicles.
