The Russian TU-95MS strategic bomber, known as “Bear” in NATO, is an icon of military aviation that has served for decades. Developed by the Tupolev design bureau, the TU-95 made its first flight in 1952 and entered service in 1956. Designed for long-range missions, the TU-95MS is a modernized variant introduced in the 1980s, equipped with improved navigation systems and armament. The TU-95MS is famous for its distinctive noise of Kuznetsov NK-12 turboprop engines, the most powerful ever built. With a wingspan of 50 meters and a payload capacity of more than 20 tons, this bomber can carry cruise missiles, including the Kh-55 and Kh-101 nuclear missiles. Its ability to refuel in flight gives it almost unlimited range, making it a crucial tool in Russia’s power projection. Throughout its service, the TU-95MS has participated in numerous military exercises and strategic patrols, demonstrating its ability to perform nuclear deterrence missions. In spite of its old design, continuous upgrades have allowed this bomber to remain relevant in modern military aviation.
