The eastern front was a severe test for the Germans during World War II. One of the greatest difficulties was the inclement weather and its consequences on the ground. In Russia, in the middle of the 20th century, there were not many paved roads, and when autumn and the rains came, the earth on the roads turned to mud and later, in the winter, to ice…both of which made it very difficult for wheeled vehicles to pass. The Germans therefore sought solutions that would allow their armies to continue their relentless advance eastward.
The RSO, based on the Steyr 1500 light truck with its wheels replaced by chains, was one of the solutions found by the Germans to overcome the muddy terrain, and was initially developed to serve as a tow tractor for artillery pieces. Although its mobility made it a multi-purpose vehicle.
This kit also includes a 5cm PaK 38 anti-tank gun.
