The SU-85 was a self-propelled anti-tank gun developed by the Soviet Union during World War II. Designed as a response to German tanks such as the Panther and Tiger, the SU-85 provided Soviet forces with a weapon capable of engaging these armored vehicles at long ranges. Based on the T-34 medium tank chassis, the SU-85 was equipped with an 85 mm D-5T gun mounted in a closed hull without a turret. This design offered a lower profile, making it difficult to detect and providing greater crew protection, although it limited its ability to fire in different directions rapidly. Introduced in 1943, the SU-85 proved to be an effective tool on the battlefield. However, it was gradually replaced by the SU-100, which had a more powerful gun.
