Until its acquisition by Chrysler in the 1960s, Simca was one of the French companies with the largest automobile production. During the years before the war Simca and the Italian company FIAT closed an agreement to manufacture a practically identical car, which was marketed in Italy under the name of FIAT 500 Topolino A and in France under the name of Simca 5.
The Simca had a 4-cylinder engine, 12 hp and developed a maximum road speed of 80km/h. Some of its features were independent front suspension, 4-speed gearbox and drum brakes.
At the beginning of World War II Simca produced military vehicles for the French army, but after the 1940 armistice it continued to produce models for the German army, most of which were used for transporting officers.
