Description

In preparation for the Normandy landings (June 6, 1944), it was planned that the British 6th Airborne Division in Horsa gliders would take control of the bridge over the Orne River, near the town of Ouistreham at Normandy (the code name for the bridge was “Pegasus”)). The idea was that, by taking the bridge, one of the flanks of Sword Beach would be protected, where a few hours later the British troops were expected to land for the reconquest of Europe.
