The Panzer IV Ausf D was a German medium tank used during World War II. It had a crew of five men and was equipped with a 75 mm short gun and two MG 34 machine guns. Its armor was 30 mm at the front and 20 mm at the sides. Powered by a Maybach HL 120 TRM engine, it reached a top speed of about 32 km/h on the highway. The Ausf D was the first mass production model of the Panzer IV and its main mission was to provide covering fire to infantry units.
