In the early stages of World War II, the Panzer III was the medium tank of choice for the German armed forces to engage other tanks. Its use was essential in the combat tactics promoted by the Germans in the first years of the conflict, however, after the invasion of the Soviet Union, the initial variants of Panzer III armed with 37 mm KwK 36 guns proved ineffective against the Kv-1 and the Russian T34/76.
To be able to mount larger guns, the turret of the Panzer III was redesigned and fitted with the 50mm KwK 38/39 gun, but it was still far from the 75mm guns that the Pz IV or the Sturmgeschütz were capable of mounting. This situation forced to rethink the use that until then had been given to the Panzer III.
The Panzer III Ausf N was the last one produced of this Panzer series. It entered service in the spring of 1943 and incorporated the, practically discarded, 75 mm L24 gun, which made it a support tank for the infantry and intended mainly for the assault of defensive positions. It was also often used as a protection trolley for the heavy Tiger I.
This attractive 1/35 Tamiya kit includes photoetched parts and metal cannon in addition to the commander figure.
