“Mossie” was the way its crews colloquially called the De Havilland Mosquito bomber.
The Mosquito was intended to be a fast bomber without defensive armament, for this purpose it was built in wood, using the previous experience with this material that was had with the “DH88 Comet”. The De Havilland Mosquito had only metal in the landing gear and engine. Being built in wood, in addition to the two Merlin engines, made it really fast, in some tests it exceeded 600 km/h, which made it surpass even the famous Spitfire fighter.
The De Havilland Mosquito Mk VI fighter-bomber was armed with 4 x 225 kg bombs, 8 rockets and 4 x 7.7 mm machine guns.
