The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is, without a doubt, the most emblematic fighter of those that, on the German side, participated in World War II.
Its operational record was very extensive, starting in the skies over the Iberian Peninsula during the Spanish Civil War, passing through the first years of successful German campaigns, when the Luftwaffe dominated the skies, and culminating in the last years of the war in the defense of the Reich, when the country was beset by continuous Allied bombing raids.
In the G variant (codenamed “Gustav”) development began in mid-1942. Odd numbers were built with pressurized cockpit to be used as high quota fighters, even numbers were air superiority fighters or fighter-bombers.
