Since the summer of 2023, Leopard 2A6 tanks have been in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, actively participating in combat in the east and northeast of the country.
Due to the nature of modern combat, some of these vehicles have undergone specific modifications.
Recent engagements have imposed new requirements, especially in improved protection against hollow-charge munitions and attack drones.
To meet these threats, additional protective features, such as grilles on combat vehicles, have been added.
Solid screens of various types are also used to protect the undercarriage.
The Ukrainian Army’s Leopard 2A6s have been modified with these measures, and several of these tanks were observed in action in the fall of 2023.
These adaptations improve the defensive capability of the vehicles, increasing their effectiveness in today’s difficult combat conditions.
