Description

If there is a photo that symbolizes well the Cold War (1948-1989) that is none other than the one taken in Berlin, on October 28, 1961, specifically at the border crossing “Check Point Charlee” when several M48 tanks stationed in the American sector came face to face with Soviet T55s that were scanning them from the other side of the border.

A few years later, the M48A3 would be sent as a main battle tank to Vietnam, where it had a more than remarkable performance in infantry support actions.

The M48A3 consisted of a 4-man crew, weighed 45 tons, and its maximum armor was 120mm. It had a 90 mm M41 rifled cannon and a 12.7 mm M2 coaxial machine gun and a 7.62 mm M73 machine gun in the commander’s cupola as secondary weapons.
