222 was a light armored reconnaissance vehicle used by the Wehrmacht during World War II.
Developed in the late 1930s, the Sd.Kfz.
222 was part of the “Leichter Panzerspähwagen” series of armored vehicles, designed for scouting and reconnaissance missions. The Sd.Kfz. 222 was based on an adapted automobile chassis, with four-wheel drive to improve its mobility in difficult terrain.
It was equipped with a 20 mm KwK 30 automatic cannon and a 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun, giving it sufficient firepower to engage infantry and other light vehicles.
Its crew consisted of three people: a driver, a gunner and a commander.

222, although light, provided protection against small arms and shrapnel.
Its open turret, protected by a metal mesh to stop grenades, offered excellent visibility, crucial for reconnaissance missions. The Sd.Kfz. 222 was deployed in all the major theaters of operations of the war, including the Eastern Front, North Africa and Western Europe.
