80th Anniversary D-Day REISSUE Developed by Higgins Industries of New Orleans from a flat-bottom boat used in the Louisiana swamps, the LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle and Personnel) participated in all major amphibious operations of World War II, both in Europe and the Pacific. Their task was to shuttle between the large ships and the beaches, carrying up to thirty men, light vehicles and any other necessary equipment. Generally armed with two rear-mounted machine guns, it was powered by either a 250 HP Hall Scott gasoline engine or a 225 HP Gray diesel engine. After the end of World War II, the LCVP remained in service, performing a variety of roles. It participated in actions in Korea and Indochina and has also been adapted for civilian use around the world.
