Description

The Teutonic Knights were a military and religious order that had its origins in the third crusade fought in the Holy Land. However, these knights of Central European origin became famous for their conquests especially in East Prussia, Poland and the Baltic countries, where they spread Catholicism among the conquered. Pope Innocent III was the one who gave them their white uniforms on which were painted black crosses.
