The King Tiger, officially known as Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B, was one of the most feared tanks of World War II. Equipped with the Henschel turret, this version of the King Tiger was the most widely produced and widely used in combat. The Henschel turret, designed by the company of the same name, offered a simpler and more robust structure compared to the Porsche turret, which was also tested.
The King Tiger with Henschel turret was armed with an 88 mm KwK 43 L/71 cannon, capable of destroying any Allied tank at longer ranges than its counterparts. Its frontal armor, up to 180 mm thick, made it practically impenetrable from the front, although its weight of almost 70 tons affected its mobility and fuel consumption.
Introduced in 1944, the King Tiger with Henschel turret participated in some of the most significant battles of the last year of the war, including the Battle of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.
