During the victory parade on September 7, 1945, in Berlin, the USSR surprised the world by showing its new tank: the IS3 (Iosif Stalin), whose appearance was completely different from that of its predecessors. The turret was cast in one piece and had a 250mm armor, the main gun was the fearsome 122mm L43 (which also mounted its predecessor the IS-II), also had a 500 horsepower diesel engine that allowed it to reach a top speed of 50km/h.
The prototype of this tank was started in October 1944 but was not operational until 1945, it is still unclear whether it entered combat during the Battle of Berlin or against the Japanese in Manchuria a few months later. Total production of this vehicle was 1,800 units until production was discontinued in 1951.
