This helicopter, known for its extreme reliability and robustness, has taken to the skies all over the world since the mid-1960s and is considered the most famous rotary-wing aircraft. Developed for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, it operated in thousands of units in transport, ambulance and attack roles. Subsequently, it was manufactured under license in Italy, Germany and Japan, extending to the armed forces and police forces of more than fifty nations. Derivative twin-engine versions are currently in production (see Italeri 847 kit) and this helicopter is expected to continue in service for the next twenty years.
