One of the most revolutionary and special aircraft of World War II was the Heinkel He162. In September 1944 Germany was being devastated by day and night by the Allies, under this situation the German Air Ministry requested the production of a single-engine jet fighter whose code name would be the “people’s fighter”. Several major companies submitted their projects to obtain the construction license, the winner in the end was Heinkel with its 1,073 prototype, which could be produced in a relatively short time.
The He-162 A-2 was powered by a BMW003 engine capable of reaching maximum speeds close to 838 km/h and was armed with two 20mm MG151 guns. The Heinkel He162 was produced from mid-January 1945 and was practically not ready to enter combat until March 1945, which meant that it could practically not enter action before the war had ended.
