The Heinkel He 219 “Uhu” (owl) was one of the most effective night fighters of the war, however, various unjustified prejudices prevented it from having a longer tour.
The He 219 incorporated many technological advances of its time, for example: pressurized cockpit located at the front of the fuselage to obtain the best possible visibility, three-wheel landing gear for greater stability, ejector seats, etc…
The He219 “Uhu” A7 was the last and most sophisticated version of this aircraft, fitted with a Daimler-Benz DB603G engine, a FuG220 night radar, two 30 mm dorsal guns, plus two more (20 or 30 mm) in the wings.
Although only 208 of these aircraft were built, the Heinkel He 219 “Uhu” was considered the best and most advanced German night fighter of the war and performed very well in combat against Allied aircraft.
