The M16 half-track was an armored anti-aircraft vehicle used by the United States Army during World War II. Equipped with a system of four Browning M2 12.7 mm machine guns, known as the “Quad .50”, this vehicle was designed to provide mobile anti-aircraft defense against low-flying enemy aircraft. The M16 was based on the chassis of the M3 half-track, a highly versatile vehicle used in multiple roles during the conflict. The M16’s rear-mounted swivel turret allowed 360-degree firing, giving it excellent air cover capability. Although originally intended as an anti-aircraft weapon, the M16 proved to be also very effective against infantry troops and light vehicles due to its high firepower. The M16 was employed on several fronts, including Europe and the Pacific, and continued in service even after the war, being used by other Allied armies.
