This elite unit fought in numerous battles during the Second World War on the Eastern Front, including the Battle of Karachev 1943, this took place during the Soviet Strategic Winter Offensive, launched on December 24, 1943, as part of Operation Bagration. The main objective of the operation was to eliminate the German presence in the region and advance westward.

Soviet forces managed to liberate Karachev after heavy fighting, inflicting heavy losses on the German army.
